All Introverts Do Not Fit Into One Box - Introversion Is A Spectrum
In spite of all the information that is now published and circulating regarding introverts and introversion there is still a misconception that being introverted means you fit into a "box". Many somehow believe that to be an introvert is a one size fits all generalization. The drawback to generalizations is all to often they are applied as an accurate truth to a subject. The real truth however is there simply is no ALL to any one trait or characteristic. Generally speaking is not absolute truth. Generally speaking a movie star or celebrity is constantly in the public eye, yet this does not mean ALL of them enjoy being in the public eye. Generally speaking being a wealthy person does you accumulated a significant amount of money yet it does not mean ALL wealthy people are driven by greed. When it comes to introversion not only does being quiet, not mean you are shy, being introverted also does not mean you always avoid people, you are always non-expressive, or you are always reserved. Introversion mirrors much of life itself as it is a spectrum, it has varying degrees and levels.
The Briggs Meyers Type Indicator Handbook was first published in 1944. Changed to the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) in 1956, the current version of the MBTI has 16 personality types. 8 are personality types that exhibit extroversion and yes the other 8 are personality types that exhibit introversion:
ISTJ - The Inspector
ISTP - The Crafter
ISFJ - The Protector
ISFP - The Artist
INFJ - The Advocate
INFP - The Mediator
INTJ - The Architect
INTP - The Thinker
As so noted in the article "Apparently There Are 4 Types of Introversion" by Melissa Dahl at TheCut.com, "There’s not just one way to be an introvert," according to psychologist Jonathan Cheek, "rather, there are four shades of introversion: social, thinking, anxious, and restrained. And many introverts are a mix of all four types, rather than demonstrating one type over the others." Be sure to check out the rest of the article below.
